The Author

Jackie M Baker

Jackie supports mothers grieving the loss of a child by suicide, helping them navigate the intense devastation brought by such a loss. She accompanies these mothers in their grief journey to not only survive but also thrive and grow once more, finding beauty and hope amidst their brokenness.

Residing among the evergreens in the Pacific Northwest in Washington state, Jackie is a dedicated follower of Jesus and has been married to her husband, Steve, for thirty-five years. They have two children: a married daughter residing in Arizona and a son who resides in heaven.

Jackie holds a doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in biblical studies from Multnomah University. In addition to her writing, Jackie works as a pediatric nurse practitioner, providing care to underserved children in her community. Her literary career began with the publication of her first poem, “I Have an Elf of My Own,” in Our Best in '73: Buffalo Public Schools at the age of ten. She has since had essays published in Ekstasis Magazine and The Columbian Newspaper. Messy Mourning is her first book.

At first, grief is an ocean
that pulls you under.

With time, it becomes a river
that you learn to swim in.

But these waves…
they never stop coming.
